Background on the Initiative
On the 21st January 2009 Rugby Borough Council launched one of its initiatives to help local businesses through this difficult economic time - free access to a local specialist debt solicitor, Marie-Claire Hoare. The idea behind the move is that if businesses can improve their cash flow there is a better possibility of getting through the present economic circumstances. The Borough Council’s Cabinet meeting backed this initiative fully.

Councillor Neil Campbell, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, said: "In the present economic climate it is essential that the Council does all it can to help the small businesses that make up so much of the Borough's economy. I hope these measures will have a positive effect for this vital business sector."

Who is Marie-Claire Hoare
A solicitor since 2000, Marie set up JH Law in 2004 as a Principal Solicitor/Director. She has experience in most types of civil cases, from small claims to multi-million pound international arbitration. As a SME herself she understands fully the demands on both cash flow and limited resources to run any business, the pitfalls and how to avoid them.

In addition to her practice, she is an active Board Member of Rugby First and a director of a training company, CPD Courses.

How do you go about booking this service
Marie is retained by the Council to be available each Wednesday to any local business for advice and assistance on debt recovery. Businesses can either arrange to visit the solicitor or request that the specialist visit them at their premises or alternatively at the Town Hall.

The only criteria is that your business pays business rates or council tax to Rugby Borough Council.
